Introducing Rachel Harris
Rachel Harris is joining the Sweet Connection Team, bringing us Beauty and Lifestyle tips on a budget.
Sweet Connection asked Rachel to tell us a little about herself:
For the last four years, I’ve produced, written, occasionally co-hosted and regularly appeared in numerous segments for KTVK's (Channel 3) daily "Your Life A to Z" morning show. My weekly "Beauty Beat" segments cover topics like skin care, healthy foods on-the-run and budget beauty topics. I also created; field produced and hosted pieces like the "You Go Girl" series which profiled local Valley women succeeding in traditionally male roles. In addition, I’ve created and appeared with the local "Mom Squad,” a panel of local mothers who come on the program each week to discuss topics like parenting, relationships and healthy lifestyles. Last May, I researched and covered a daily budget piece for viewers called "Deal of the Day."
Prior to producing and appearing on "Your Life A to Z," I was a producer for the number one rated program, "Good Morning! Arizona" also seen on KTVK. This live four hour morning show airs in Phoenix and in Tucson and covers the entire state.
I began my career in Phoenix in 1992 as the Area Marketing Manager for Southwest Airlines. I was the local broadcast and print spokesperson for the successful airline. My on camera appearances and public relations skills impressed KTVK enough to recruit me from the carrier in 1998. I’ve also taken time off during my career to be a full-time homemaker; a job I would say is the hardest and most rewarding role in my experience.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. During college, I worked full-time, completed internships with an advertising agency in Dallas and an Austin radio station. I’m also an active member of the local Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter writing monthly articles for the newspaper. I continued to write for the Phoenix professional chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) during my Southwest Airlines tenure.
Personally, I’ve been married to John for 15 years. In my spare time, I can usually be found at the local ice rink where my ten-year-old son is a travel hockey player and my 6-year-old daughter figure skates, even though we live in the Valley of the Sun! I also call my two cats, Stanley and Tucker my adopted boys that were rescued from the local Humane Society. Although not a Phoenix native, I call Arizona my home state since I attended junior high and high school in Mesa.
Check back next week to read Rachel’s first article. Plus, you can watch Rachel’s segment on 3TV’s Your Life A to Z on November 13th at 9 a.m. on 3TV.
