Easy & Inexpensive Gift with Beads
by Lana Burford of Gems Beadbar & More™
Member Dollie from Phoenix wants to make gifts for a retreat.
"Dear Lana,
I have two questions for you. First, I am going on a women’s' retreat and need to make "pillow gifts". In the past, they've had potpourri, scented soaps, etc. I need to make 30 gifts, so any low cost suggestions would be helpful. Our theme is Hawaiian. We already have the bookmark gift covered. I am a beader and would really like to make something with beads.
Secondly, I have just heard of "SCRIMPS". What is its application and what do you think of it?"
Dear Dollie,
For your women's retreat you might consider Key Chain Charms
They're inexpensive - the key rings cost 25 to 45 cents each and one pewter charm ranges from 45 cents to $ 2.50 each – and you can customize them to match your theme. Use any beads of your choice on beading wire and add a charm to the end.

As a second option, you can start with a key ring and peyote stitch around the ring. Add the charm as your finishing touch.
Now, for your second question.
"Scrimps" are screws on crimps. The only time I would use this type of crimp is when you have a special focal bead that you may want to change out. I have also seen the "Scrimps" used for ID badges to be changed from necklace to necklace. I think that Scrimps used in the right application are a great option.
Enjoy!
