Create a Shadow Box Look
Expert Tips from Scrapbooker Heidi Swapp
This is a layout that I love. I wanted to create a "shadow box" look for the scrapbook page, so I used foam core board.
Here are some quick instructions...
1. Cut a piece of foam core and make sure that its finished, overall size is 1/2" smaller than the size of the sheet protector to accommodate the thickness of the foam core.
2. Cut out the middle of the foam core so there is only a 1" border around the outside, and discard the middle.
3. Cut a piece of cardstock the same size as the foam core frame for the back, where you will place the photos.
4. Create a watercolor background by painting simple bars of color and blending with extra water... I assure you I am not a watercolor artist!
5. Create photo corners, then adhere the foam core frame on top. I created clever photo corners by using beads, ribbons and charms and hand wrote a caption.
6. Printed your captions on a piece of "ink jet" transparency - available at office supply stores. I used the words I felt described my grandparents.
7. Adhere the transparency over the foam core frame.
8. Create a double cardstock frame and carefully tear out the inside to get that cool, dimensional torn look, and adhere on top of the transparency.
