Getting Started with Scrapbooking
A few necessities for getting started:
Ok, these are things you may already have around the house (or because maybe in the past you have tried to get started and got overwhelmed and shoved it all in a closet!!). If you go into any scrapbook store, or even a craft store, and ask for this stuff, they will know exactly what you are talking about:
- A 12x12 paper trimmer
I like the one by Fiskars. It's about $20. (This is a good thing to buy at Michaels with a 40% off coupon!)
- Sticky square adhesives
These usually come in a dispenser, and you can buy refills... trust me, this makes your scrap booking fast, easy, slick and 'safe'. I like the one by Hermafix. The first dispenser is about $13 loaded... then about $6 for refills. (another good coupon buy)
- Liquid adhesive
My favorite kind is called MONO adhesive by TOMBO. It's in a little green bottle with 2 ends... a fine tip and a wide tip... dries fast and holds great. (about $3)
- Scissors
Don't buy anything really fancy - what you have will most likely do.
- Pens
Alright, you will soon find out that I am a 'hand journaling' junkie... I think it's so important! Purchase two or three different point sizes... I will be showing you how and when to use them. Buy BLACK. I like the Zig Millenium pens. They are about $2 each. This is really worth it. The ink is archival and the tips are quality and won't break down quickly!
- PAPER!
Since you will already be hitting a scrapbook store, peruse the paper... no doubt you will be shocked and overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of different styles and looks to choose from. Buy only a few sheets that you really love! And pick up a few pieces of coordinating color cardstock.
