Brag About Dad

Father's Day Scrapbook by Heidi Swapp

Just like anyone else, a Father's love can be featured, bragged and photographed for scrapbook pages! Usually it takes an extra effort to get them to pose, but if you are looking for opportunities, you can get great candid shots!

I love to highlight the special relationships that exist between dads and kids. As mothers, we know how dad brings out something special in each child. For Father's Day, take a minute to write about that unique relationship that you observe and look for an opportunity to snap a few photos. Whether those photos create a scrapbook page, a mini-book or find their way into a picture frame, accompanied by your thoughts — it will be an even sweeter treasure!

These photos were taken in the midst of a family photo shoot. Let's face it, family photo shoots are chaotic at best! Especially, with little ones. But hey, everyone is dressed up! It's a great time to capitalize on smaller units within the family...especially one-on-one type relationships.

The larger photo on this page was taken specifically of these two, and the small one was cropped from an actual family shot. By layering the frame, ribbon and title over top of the photo, it made that photo seem even more cozy and intimate. I added the gold leafing myself (it's so easy to do!) and a little pink paint here and there.

These pages were completed with some special dying techniques. I mixed up some dye and dropped in a whole bunch of different items that then became perfectly matching embellishments!

Paper, ribbon, tags, flowers, stickers, lace etc. Again, these photos speak for themselves. Heartfelt journaling goes a long way!

Children are such blessings! I can remember when I got these photos back and I was just staring at them trying to decide how I wanted to use them on a scrapbook page. All I could think about was how overwhelmingly blessed I felt!

I used a swatch of fabric for a 'photomat' for both photos. I then used embroidery floss to sew little photo corners and every other stitch, added some beads on the needle to embellish the string. I then added a simple border of stitches along the edge of the fabric. It's fun to take some time to simply scrapbook your treasured blessings!

Growin' UP!

Any father can attest to the fact that kids grow up so fast! I have heard that old adage, "Days seem like weeks, and the weeks seem like days." I created this layout using all the extra photos that didn't really go with anything specific. I chose 5 or 6 photos from each year of his life at that point and used a rectangle hole-punch to quickly crop each photo to the same size. Then I grouped them together. This scrapbook page brings a smile to my face without fail. Talk about a little time-travel! I love it!
