Package those Sweets for Wonderful Holiday Gifts

Expert Tips from Scrapbooker Heidi Swapp

Thinking back over the years about the holiday season, I think that my favorite things are definitely the sweets. So I created a few delightfully festive jar ideas that can be easily and quickly re-created for gifts. They will not only thrill the taste buds, but also inspire creative uses for scrapbooking and maybe even deliver that perfect holiday gift idea that we are all looking for this time of year!

The first jar is that traditional goodie jar with the chrome lid; you can buy them super cheap anywhere. I used the “bordeaux mix” rub-ons in black to spell out “it’s the most wonderful time of the year” right on the lid. Then I used “ruby” bling borders and put them around the entire circumference of the lid. Then I simply tied on a couple ribbons and topped it off with a silhouette snowflake. For the jar itself, I used the holly mask. I cut it up into smaller pieces so they would distribute nicely on the jar. Then I spray painted the whole jar with silver spray paint. I then took some dimensional paint and wrote “happy holidays” on the side. I filled this jar with the Oreo’s with the red centers! So cute.

The second jar had to be for candy sticks. I used the “she” foam stamp set to stamp the word “enjoy” on the front of the jar. I had the “ruby” bling variety set and I used a smaller circle to go around the “e” of enjoy. Then I was delighted to realize that the opening of the jar was the absolute perfect size to fit that largest circle bling. So I laid that circle upside-down on my table, and with the jar upside-down, I placed it exactly on the top edge of the jar opening. It looks so awesome! To finish it off I wrapped my favorite black and white polka dot ribbons around the opening and stuck a large silhouette snowflake on as well.

The last one I played with has my favorite kind of holiday candy… that chocolate peppermint bark. (We found it at target). I used a tiny vase for this one. I cut foot long lengths of ribbon and I stitched the silhouette snowflakes to the ends of the ribbons. Now, the snowflakes are self-adhesive, so I put some baby powder on the sticky stuff to make them un-sticky. Once the snowflakes were attached to the ends of the ribbon, I tied the ribbons around the neck of the vase so the snowflakes were dangling. Turned out cute.

Now, head out and create your delightful holiday jars to give to all your friends and neighbors!
