Baby Receiving Blanket
A Sew-Expressive Project from Mulqueen Sewing Centers

Level: Beginner
This receiving blanket is double fabric, making it just the right weight for so
many things, from changing diapers to covering baby for a nap. It's sure to
become a favorite blankie for any baby!
Approximate finished size 27" X 30"
Supplies Required:
- Sewing machine
- Zig-zag Foot
- Satin Stitch foot
- Embroidery thread
- Needle 75/11
Fabric and Notions Required:
- 3/4 yd. flannel print
- 3/4 yd. coordinating flannel
- All purpose thread
Instructions:
Cut a 27" x 30"rectangle from each piece of flannel.
- Round the corners of each piece.
Hint: To make matching round corners, use an ordinary drinking glass or bottle as a round template. Simply place the curves of the glass or bottle at each side of the square corner and trace around
the rounded edge of the glass or bottle.
- Set up the machine for ordinary sewing.
- Place the rectangles of flannel right sides together, matching the edges.
- Stitch together with a 1/4" seam, leaving an 8" opening.
- Turn the blanket right sides out, and press.
- Hand stitch the opening closed.
- Set up the machine for Decorative stitching.
- Thread the needle and bobbin with Embroidery thread.
- Attach the Satin Stitch foot.
- Select a decorative stitch, and sew around the blanket 1" from the edge.
Hint: You can use the leftover fabric to take a matching 'burp cloth', following the
same steps used to create the receiving blanket. Cut the fabric 10" X 24", and
finish to match the receiving blanket.
