Crisp Wines for Summer
From WineStyle's Jill Stacey
The weather is heating up and it’s time to review some of the great summer wines! I thought we might check out some unique varietals that you may not have thought of before. These are all from our “Crisp” section in our store ~ pair them with shell fish, chicken, light salads, and spicy foods!
Pieropan Soave Classico – Veneto, Italy. Soave is the varietals and it’s a fun wine to say…..think of that guy trying to sell you something….a real Sauvé type. This wine really is smooth and crisp thought with notions of grapefruit and light to medium-bodied with lovely purity. It’s juicy and light!
Famega ~ Vinho Verde, Portugal. Lively, sweet ripe peach and citrus. Very clean and fresh. You won’t normally find this kind of quality for under $12.00. A steal! This is a wine designed to have with green chili spicy Spanish food!
Mouthweight is our term of the week. The impression of a wine’s volume in the mouth. Think of “light mouthfeel” as skim milk and “full mouthfeel” as whole milk. The heavier the mouthfeel tends to mean a fuller bodied, more flavors and a longer finish.
Next week we are going to write about some fun Mother’s Day Brunch wines.
