Keeping Your Wine Cool, When It's Hot Out
with Wine Expert Jill Stacey
Just because the temperatures are rising doesn't mean that your wine has to cook. Jill Stacey from WineStyles shares a quick tip on keeping your wine cool throughout the hot summer days.
It's getting warm outside and it's time to protect the wine. Wine should be kept at temperatures of 55-70 degrees F. As soon as it hits 78-80 degrees it starts cooking the wine and it won't taste as good as it should. Make your wine purchases your last stop before heading home. Better yet, if you have a cooler with an ice pack that would be helpful, but don't push it! Even a quick trip into the bank can cook that wine! Also don't store the wine in the sunlight, on top of the refrigerator, next to the oven or toaster, or on top of the dishwasher. All of these items produce heat and can damage the wine. The best place to store wine, if you don't have a wine cellar/refrigerator, is in the bottom of a dark closet where it is cool. Lay the wine on its side and if the air conditioning stops working... save the wine first!
Cheers!
