Bold and Beautiful
by Wine Taster Jill Stacey
Over the last couple of weeks Jill has taken us on a tour of wine "styles"...Crisp, Silky, Rich, Bubbly, Fruity and Mellow.
Bold is our full bodied red wine category. This type of wine is best described as wine with flavors of Black Cherry, Chocolate, Spicy Oak, Tobacco, and many more flavors that are layered in finish of the wine. These are not always “dry” wines, it’s true some can have a very robust bold finish, however there are Bold wines that are very full flavored with a soft lingering finish. Some recommended wines from the Bold Style are:
David Bruce Petite Sirah – Central Coast California ~ $20.99
Blackberry, blueberry, and white pepper aromas, with a supple and balanced feel coming from the limited influence of new oak, allowing the fruit to shine through. Gold Medal at the New World International Wine Competition.
Luigi Coppo - Barbera d’Asti Camp du Rouss ~ Piedmont Italy ~ $21.99
Deep red in color with garnet highlights. Intense aromas hint of smoke.
On the palate, bright round fruit backed by trademark acidity make it an optimal food wine.
Twenty Bench ~ Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, California ~ $23.99
The wine exhibits great structure with concentrated blackberry, currant and plum flavors while the soft tannins make for a long silky textured finish.
Trevor Jones ~ Boots Grenache ~ South Australia ~ $16.99
Ripe Black Cherry fruit overlaid with dark chocolate and violet flower perfume and just a little French Oak for complexity. All the nuances and subtleties of great Grenache.
