Sweet Nectars
Part One
Advice from Wine Taster Jill Stacey
In the last few weeks Jill has taken us on a tour of wine "styles"...Crisp, Silky, Rich, Bubbly, Fruity, Mellow and Bold.
This week we focus on the final wine style...Nectars.
This WineStyle is a “sweet connection”, especially when it's paired with yummy desserts! Nectar Style is best described as sweet, enticing, and seductive with flavors of raisins, nuts, peaches and cream. Nectar wines are best paired with desserts, fruits, strong cheeses, cigars.
Wines we suggest from this Style include:
Yalumba Museum Release Muscat ~ Australia – Rose petal floral and orange rind characters in the bouquet with raisin complexity. Full middle palate has rich spicy lingering flavors and a long soft finish. This is the wine to have at Thanksgiving with pumpkin pie or pecan pie!
Sonoma Valley Portworks ~ California & Australia – Ruby red in color, with bittersweet scents and silky flavors of luscious chocolate blended with lively ripe cherries and dark fruits. The finish is smooth and sweet. Lipsmacking!
Michele Chiarlo Nivoli Moscato d’Asti Piedmont Italy – A fragrant bouquet with marked notes of peach, apricot, and hints of meringue. The palate is smooth and delicate, finishing fresh and lively, and inviting you back. This wine is perfect with a light fruity dessert!
Paradise Ranch Icewine Riesling – Okanagan Valley, Canada – The palate is extremely rich and powerful with intermingling flavors of kiwi, pineapple and papaya that seem to last forever. This is a dessert.
There are so many others, each one distinctive and delicious! Dive in and indulge a little!
