What Do You Eat?

Q and A with 3TV's Marty Hames

Sweet Connection member Jamie from Avondale has this question for 3TV's Marty Hames.

What does your daily diet consist of? Do you eat 5-6 meals a day?  I am very active, but I struggle with the nutrition aspect of my program.  Any advice you can lend would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Jaime,

MartyYou've just described the problem most people encounter. They are great when it comes to fitting in the exercise, but fall short when it comes to their eating habits. And no matter how much you exercise, if you're not eating properly, you will never reach your health goals, especially if you want to lose weight.

There are numerous diets you can follow. The most important thing is to find a diet that works for you, and BE CONSISTENT. I eat 5 to 6 small meals per day. My diet includes mostly lean source protein, like chicken and fish, energy rich carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and oatmeal, and healthy fats like flaxseed, and olive oil.

Here's a sample of my day of eating:

6:30am - ½ cup oatmeal, 5 egg whites

9:30am - piece of fruit

12:30pm - chicken, broccoli, ½ sweet potato

4pm - ½ cup low fat cottage cheese

6:30pm - grilled salmon, steamed spinach, sliced tomato, 1/4 cup brown rice

9pm - protein shake

Good luck with your program,
Marty
