We've all done it – jumped into exercise or yard work and ended up with sore muscles.

Our Sweet Connection editors asked Lauren how long we should wait before working out again?

Don't wait too long! What you are experiencing is called DOMS or delayed onset muscle soreness. When that happens, it’s best to do a recovery workout, which is a short, light, low intensity workout of a different variety from the workout that made you sore. This will help to flush the lactic acid out of your muscles. For example, if you ran a 10K and are sore then I would recommend doing a short ride on a stationary bike. But make sure you don't use this recovery workout to introduce a new exercise or activity that you haven't tried before. So for example, if you don’t ever ride the stationary bike, stick to a short, slow run.
