Break Through that Plateau
Q & A with Trainer Chris Powell
Tracey of Glendale needs help with 15 pounds that snuck back on.
Dear Chris,
I once weighed about 205 pounds. I went down to 128-130 and kept it off for about five years. In the past year, 15 pounds have snuck up on me, and I've tried changing my exercise routine (I exercise every single day) and scrutinizing my eating habits, and every thing I can imagine, and somehow these 15 pounds just do not want to move. I weighed 146 this morning! My clothes are getting tight and I do NOT like it. I'm 5'6 and medium frame. 130-133 feels about right to me. I'm 35. What in the world can I do?
Dear Tracey,
First of all, congratulations on your weight loss! 15 pounds can sneak up pretty fast, huh?
It’s good that you changed up your exercise routine – your body adapts quickly to any one specific exercise routine, so it is best to switch it up every couple weeks.
So the question is: How much are you scrutinizing your eating habits? To break through your plateau, your nutrition should be much more structured. Since nutrition accounts for 75% of your weight loss success, we want to make sure that you have success by design, not success by coincidence!
This might sound kind of crazy, but to begin a nutrition regimen to break through a plateau, I always encourage clients to consume 6 meals a day that are relatively high in carbohydrates. If you have suppressed your metabolism thru nutrition deficiency and overtraining, this is the best way to boost the metabolism back up and ‘clear the slate’ for more weight loss. After 1 week, we create a clean structure for your nutrition to begin the weight loss.
For fat loss nutrition, I recommend the following meal breakdown. Just be sure to check with your physician first before making any changes to your exercise and nutrition regimen!
Meal 1: Protein + Carbs
Morning Workout
Meal 2: Protein + Carbs
Meal 3: Protein + Carbs
Meal 4: Protein + Carbs
Meal 5: Protein + Carbs
Meal 6: Protein + veggies + Fats
Good luck and stay tuned for more tips on weight loss living!
