Pomegranates and Prickly Pears

A Cookbook to benefit the Community

Invited to a wedding this spring? The Junior League of Phoenix has a unique wedding or shower gift idea that will help their current community programs.  It's a new cookbook called Pomegranates and Prickly Pears. The book features over 250 recipes including entertaining, main dishes, side dishes and desserts, all submitted and tested by Junior League of Phoenix members.  This is the League's fifth cookbook, and the first to feature an entire chapter dedicated to our Valley Chef’s own creations.  Give this book paired with a bottle of wine or the special ingredients for a flavorful recipe to give your newlyweds the opportunity to cook culinary specialties at home together.  Both brides and grooms will enjoy the chapter filled with tasty tailgating and fan fare recipes.  Parents and parents-to-be will enjoy the chapter with kids’ menus.

To order a cookbook, contact The Junior League of Phoenix at either 602.234.3388 or go on-line to jlp.org

Proceeds from Pomegranates and Prickly Pears support The Junior League of Phoenix’s current community programs, including:

  • Hearts and Hands Days—family volunteer events in conjunction with The Society of St. Vincent DePaul
  • AWEE’s Women Living Free –transition assistance for incarcerated and newly released women through education and mentoring
  • Children’s Museum of Phoenix—hands-on exhibits and educational programs to engage the minds of children and their families
  • Journey of Me—along with partner Arizonans for Children, capture and document the life history of foster children in the form of “Life Books”
  • Fast Break—organization of activities for foster children that encourage the love of books and reading in partnership with Aid to Adoption of Special Kids.

Proceeds from previous cookbooks have benefited the Phoenix community through a variety of programs including Ronald McDonald House, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and saving The Orpheum Theater.
