Emergency Prep for your Car
Advice from the Experts at Camelback VW Subaru
We all count on our vehicles to get us where we want to go. But emergencies do happen. Being prepared can determine whether you're stranded or back on the road as quickly as possible. The experts at Camelback VW Subaru have suggestions on what to carry in your car in case of an emergency.
Some items you may want to carry in your car for unplanned maintenance:
- Tire pressure gauge, jack and tire tool.
- Properly inflated spare tire.
- Emergency road service card, phone number to repair shop you may want to use for repairs if you need towing.
- Change for a phone. (Even if you have a cell phone, you may be out of range at times)
- SEND HELP sign for window.
- Gloves, rags or paper towels, and something to sit on if need to change a tire.
- Spare belts. If you already have spare belts, and they are not too difficult to change, an emergency road service operator may be able to change them for you on the spot, and get you going.
- A few tools to change belts, bulbs, or battery.
- Funnel for oil, anti-freeze. A 2 liter pop bottle can be cut to use the top 1/3 or so for a funnel.
- Spare bulbs and fuses.
- Auto repair manual.
- Safety goggles.
- Flashlight.
- Jumper cables.
- Portable air pump,
- Can of "Fix A Flat" (a temporary solution - notify shop of use when you have tire fixed)
- Portable volt meter.
- Duct tape.
- Fire extinguisher, first aid kit.
