The birth of "Meese"

from Member Linda

cherry mouse

"I hear that these 'mice' were sold in a catalogue for quite a lot of money. I looked at the picture and off I went to the store. I made approx. 150 in 1/2 hour for a neighbor to give to the homeless at a party her company gives every year. Here is how it is made." ~ Linda

Ingredients:

1 and 1/2 bags Nabisco Oreo cookies
1 cup Hershey’s kisses
1 cup chocolate chips
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
3 bottles Maraschino cherries with stems (tails)
1 bag of sliced almonds for ears

Instructions:

Microwave 1 cup of water in a microwaveable bowl until boiling.

Unwrap about 150 kisses.

Twist and separate about 150 cookies. We will only use the bottom of the cookie with the frosting to make it look like snow.

Open 3 bottles of maraschino cherries and drain.

Place bottom of cookies on wax paper. I place wax paper on top of paper doiley I bought at Michael's, on green and red Christmas plates (also bought at Michael's.)

Heat 1 cup of chocolate chips with vegetable oil in a microwaveable bowl, for 3 minutes on high, stirring every 1 minute.

When done, place bowl on boiling water, and place on pot holder or trivet.

Holding the stem, dip cherry in chocolate. Use toothpick to remove drip on bottom. Place on side of cookie, with tail (stem) sticking up in the air.

Take a kiss, and use back of spoon to add a little melted chocolate to paste it to the cherry.

Using melted chocolate, add 2 slices of almonds to make ears.

Use decorative frosting to put eyes on. I used blue. The ones in the magazine were black.

If you wish, you can add grass with a green frosting tube or sprinkle powdered sugar so it looks like snow. I left my plain.

Place in refrigerator until they chill. Takes approx. 20 min. to make. Left house 5 minutes after I called recipients.

Give to friends, neighbors or charity. Sit back and wait for raves. If you have an imagination you can see it in your mind. Sorry no pictures. They went in 20 minutes.
