Fending for Herself
Q & A with Lissa Coffey
A member in Chandler needs help getting past her divorce.
"Dear Lissa,
I feel very bad since I had to move from Florida, due to a divorce. My kids, who are adults, are still there. And so is my ex. He kinda left me to pretty much fend for myself after 28 years of marriage. My kids and I are very close. But I think about this every day. And it's killing me inside...Help...please"
Dear Fending for Yourself,
Did you have to move for financial reasons? After 28 years of marriage you are entitled to some sort of alimony or spousal support, but I don't know what the laws are in Florida. I think you need to consult an attorney and make sure you are getting the financial assistance that you are legally entitled to. That said, here you are in a new state, and it sounds like you need to forge some new relationships so that you get some roots in your new community.
Joining MySweetConnection.com is a great first start! I've gotten other letters from women who are in similar situations. Maybe we need to have a "girls night out" for everyone so we can meet face to face! Take classes, join clubs, volunteer, do what you can to meet people. Meanwhile, remain close to your kids, who probably have very busy lives themselves, via phone and e-mail.
Love,
Lissa
