Coffey Talk, with Relationship Expert Lissa Coffey

Confused in Safford

Communication problems

”My boyfriend of two years told me that he will always be here for me but I deserve someone who will make me happy. He does make me happy. My daughter's father likes to create drama for me and my honey can't handle that. He doesn't want to break up with me, he told me that and that I'm his everything, but I’m so confused. He's almost 30 and he's not sure if he wants the whole married with kids thing. He's always worked on the road (he's a traveler) until he met me. HELP PLEASE.”

Dear Confused in Safford,

Your boyfriend is definitely giving you mixed signals here. It sounds like he does want to break up; he just doesn't want to hurt you. You two need to talk, I mean really TALK. Ask him what he means when he says you deserve someone to make you happy - ask him how he feels about you, the relationship, marriage, family, being a step-father.

It's time to be really honest with each other. Be clear with what you want, too, and see if that matches what your boyfriend wants. If what you want is someone who is committed to you whole-heartedly and not itching to get back on the road, then that's what you deserve.

Love,
~ Lissa
