Calling Home is Common Courtesy

Advice from Relationship Expert Lissa Coffey

"Dear Lissa,

Common CourtesyIs it too much to ask for him to keep me in the loop? My fiancé is in a business where client relationships are very important. Therefore, he tends to take them out at least once a week for drinks. When the clock hits 10 p.m. and he's not home, is it too much to ask for him to call me to tell me his status and when he'll be home?"

Dear Phone Home,

No, it's not too much to ask.  It is good manners, and it is giving you the respect that you deserve.  When we care about a person, we are naturally concerned for their safety.  By not calling you, your fiancé is causing you to worry, when it may be unnecessary to worry.  Make it just a routine - if he's not home by 10 pm then he calls to check in.  And promise to do the same for him when you're out, too.  That's reasonable.

Take care,
Lissa
