Game ON!

by Flick Chick Vique

3 Red Vines

Resident Evil: Extinction earns 3 Red Vines for getting my ‘game’ on.

I’m not a ‘gamer’. That is unless you count Cranium. Yeah, I didn’t think so. As if that isn’t a big enough strike against me, I also have never seen the original Resident Evil or its sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Now you wouldn’t think there would be much after an apocalypse but wait there’s more! Apparently after an apocalypse there’s ‘extinction’. Enter the third in this movie series, Resident Evil: Extinction.

Well I actually caught part of Resident Evil: Apocalypse on TV one lazy Saturday afternoon (okay I was on a housecleaning rampage so it wasn’t exactly lazy!) and I gotta admit I liked what little I saw. So when I found out that Resident Evil: Extinction was the double feature playing with 30 Days of Night, it sounded like the perfect night at the drive-in!

Milla Jovovich has graced countless magazines as a super model, sings and writes music and has acted in numerous American projects. But there’s no question the leggy Russian beauty is best known as the cyborg heroine Alice of the Resident Evil franchise. The movies are based on the popular video game but don’t let that dissuade you from seeing this film. Ditto if you are new to the series. I walked-or rather drove- into this fresh and still found the film a lot of Armageddon fun!

To summarize briefly, a powerful, out of control supercomputer and scores of its flesh-eating (zombie?) scientists are running amok after a lab accident. A special military unit is earth’s last defense against the onslaught. While this is an extremely simplistic synopsis that is what this whole movie series is about. I’ll grant you that a lot of it might go over my head and is geared for the gamers but that’s okay. I still enjoy what I see and get and there is a lot for even newbies like me!

For one there’s Milla. In this movie she’s more Road Warrior than Alice with her wardrobe and bike, roaming the landscape and taking no hostages. And like the Terminator she’s a gal of few words. She lets her muscles do the talking and what a conversation they have! This is a beauty that will make men leer and women cheer!

I don’t know what exactly follows extinction but something surely does. The last scene of the movie sets you up for part four of Resident Evil. I for one will be there when it comes to the big screen. And now I have plenty of time to start at the beginning and work my way forward.

Phoenix Movie Reviews

LADIES ROOM LOWDOWN:
While the second feature didn’t have any cross over characters (must have all been slaughtered!), Resident Evil: Extinction features one of the stars from Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Oded Fehr (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns) reprises his role as Carlos. I love this actor!
