Symbolic Expressionism
Take a walk through our Sweet Connection Gallery with artist Kathy Taylor.
How did you get started and what are your inspirations for your art?
I got involved in art after a move to Oregon in the "70's". The solitude of living out in the country allowed me to focus on the study of painting without distraction. The moment I held a paint brush in my hand I knew that I was suppose to paint. Not a day goes by that I don't think about creating, painting or teaching others how to connect to their own passion through creativity. The inspirations for most of my art pieces come from the study of ancient civilizations as well as philosophy, mythology and spirituality.
What was your first piece of art?
A terracotta (clay) figurative piece which I entered in the Oregon State Fair and won an honorable mention!
How would you categorize your art and what types of mediums do you use?
My art is Symbolic Expressionism. I use a variety of media which includes acrylic paint, colored pencil, newspaper, collage and wax.
Where can people see your art?
Locally, at Objects, Biltmore Plaza and Gainey Ranch. I also have a website with an electronic portfolio. The website is www.KathyTaylorArt.com Out of state, I exhibit in Santa Fe at Deloney Newkirk, the Bay Area at Linda Durnell Gallery and Bogena Galerie in St. Paul, France.
