"One day soon, my art will be worth a lot of money!!"

Take a walk through the Gallery with artist Bobbie Friedman.

Bobbie FriedmanWhere are you from and how did you get started painting?
I am a "Maine-iac," born and brought up in Maine. I moved to the Phoenix area in 2000 from the north side of Chicago to be a "cowgirl." I always said I had a "western heart in an eastern body." I needed artwork for my new home and decided I would paint my own. My aunt and uncle are in the "Who's Who of American Artists" and everyone in my family has artistic talent.

What is your training?
I am known as an Outside Artist. That is, I do not have formal art training. My degree is in Physical Therapy from Boston University.

Outside Art is becoming very popular and collectible. The Tate Gallery in London is having their first Outside Art exhibition.

Outside Artists include Picasso, Grandma Moses, Dubuffet and the impressionists (Monet, Manet, Van Gogh). These artists felt that taking art lessons was simply learning the technique of the teacher. They were so imaginative that they did not want to follow the set pattern.

Explain your passion and inspiration for art?
When I paint, I am in another world. I light a candle and try not to trip over my two Labs, and four cats that MUST lie under my feet. It seems that when I am painting with white, my Black Lab, Emily, MUST be underfoot and subsequently gets white paint on her. I suspect she aspires to be a Dalmatian. My imagination is wild with ideas. Circumstances in my life give me inspiration. The "Leo" in my soul speaks in REDS, PURPLES and intense color.

How would you categorize your art?
Whimsical, colorful, original, humorous, exciting, non mainstream. I work in acrylic, oil, watercolor and mixed media (with some dog and cat hair wafting about). Many of my pieces have subtle anatomical inferences based on my knowledge of the human body.

What exhibitions have you been in?
I just finished a Juried Show with the statewide, Arizona Art Alliance that was held at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. I have exhibited in many events in the Phoenix and Palm Beach area.

What else would you like people to know about your artwork?
I am available for commission pieces.

One day soon, my art will be worth a lot of money!!

I coordinate art exhibits and sales for organizations and non-profit groups. Art includes oil, acrylic, mixed media, glass, jewelry and sculpture.

Giclee's, the new darling of the art world, are available for all my images.
